We all have our own guilty pleasures when it comes to music. Some of us like boy bands, classical, heavy metal, EDM while some find solace in the sounds of Mother Nature. While some find themselves being the most productive in a dead silent library, some find peak efficiency when they’re drowned in their own headphones, listening to their favourite jams.
Whatever the case may be, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to what is music to their ears when they’re studying, so here are a couple of recommendations when it comes to what type of genres you should be listening to, or should you even be listening to anything at all? 1) Classical There is a reason why classical is almost always played in places where it needs to be peaceful. Classical music is known to create a calm and serene mood and environments. Classical mood also generally promotes better mood and increased productivity. There is nothing quite like the harmonies and melodies of a classic Classical classic.
2) Instrumental Ambient Sounds Ambient sounds on their own can be pretty boring to some but ambient sounds accompanied by instrumentals of your favourite tunes? Listening to a more toned down, chill version of your favourite songs might help in improving your mood without totally taking your attention away from your study material. If you prefer a more modern flair, this may be the perfect option for you.
3) Mother Nature
Ok technically this not music, but is to some people! Engulfing yourself with the sound of rain splattering outside your window, or the sound of waves crashing against the shore, or birds and crickets communicating in a forest provides a certain sense of serenity that only Mother Nature can provide. Imagine being one with nature with not a care in the world, except that exam that’s coming in 2 days.
4) Lo Fi
Lo-Fi has been very popular lately. There lots of Lo-Fi playlists on youtube, most of them are accompanied by a cartoon of a student studying in her room with her cat. Even the playlists covers are suggesting that it’s good for studying! There are many subgenres within Lo-Fi too, drawing influences from Hip Hop, House and even Pop; enough to entertain you just enough without taking your attention away from your textbook.
Whether or not you listen to any of these recommendations, it really doesn’t matter. Listen to what makes you bop your head (or not), feel motivated and most importantly, something that does not distract you from your studying!
