Study Hard But Also, Study Smart!

It’s November and that means we’re only one month away from the holiday season! But first, there’s always one obstacle that gets in our way of going into full holiday mood; and that is exams! We’ve been working hard all semester and exams are the stage where we put all our efforts on a pedestal and give it everything we’ve got. But just in case, here’s a couple of tips that we’ve put together to help all of you during this very important crunch time. 1) Ask for help! We understand that this examination is super important to you and you want to be at the top of the class, but remember, so do the rest of your classmates! Instead of climbing the long winding road alone, make it more fun and do it together with your friends! You’ll never know what you can find out from them just by simply picking their brain. You might even reinforce something that you already know when they ask you for help as well. Win-win! And remember, there’s another person that wants to see you at the top of the class as well, your teacher! Every teacher wants to see their students do well, so go for it! Ask them for help!

2) Do not read EVERYTHING!

The human brain can only remember so much and add exam nerves and anxiety into the mix, chances are, you’re not going to remember anything useful. I’m sure a lot of us have been doing this since we were young, but sometimes we can get so caught up in not missing anything out, we end up not remembering anything when the day comes. Focus on the topics that require more attention rather than the ones that you can recite with your eyes closed. Be selective with your note taking and highlight only the important bits. Be personal in how you read and present information. It doesn’t matter if it’s messy, as long as you can understand your notes, you’re good to go!

3) It’s not just how, but where and when too!

Some of us are more productive when the sun is bright; some are more productive at night. Find the most comfortable time of day (or night) for you and start studying then. There is no point in studying so hard but you’re uncomfortable and distracted half the time. Remember, it’s not just about how long you study, but where and when too!

4) Keep yourself healthy!

The last thing you would want is to fall sick during this important season. You would want not only your mind to be healthy but also your physical condition as well. Get enough sleep, the right amount of nutrition and don’t forget to exercise and relax in between those intense study sessions! It’s exactly like how athletes do all it takes for competition day, same rules apply during examination season!

Good luck, and enjoy your time studying for your exams!

You got this!
